Living and Dying on Earth (Work in Progress Documentary, 90 Minutes)
An independent documentary seeking an individual/family interested in green burial who is currently or soon to be going through the process of death planning to be featured in a feature film.
Film Synopsis:
This film will follow the journey of an individual that has started looking into death planning. The story of this person and their family will paint a picture on the shockingly bureaucratic process of death planning, as well as the hidden ecological repercussions of our current death traditions, before discovering green burials - a method that casts aside traditions of embalming, caskets and concrete vaults. Along the way we will get an intimate look into the deeply emotional process of funeral preparation. Taken along the journey of death we will, with some luck, learn something about what it means to be alive.
Impact:
Many people struggle with death planning for themselves and loved ones. It can be a time consuming, expensive, and emotional ordeal. The purpose of this film is to bring awareness to green/natural burial as an option to individuals who aren't aware of this practice. The other goal of this film is to work towards a culture shift that is needed to move away from expensive and less sustainable practices - and help Western cultures accept the practice of natural burial. By opening themselves up to having their story told, this individual and their family could bring information, understanding, and solace to others who may struggle with the idea of death but want to figure out how to die sustainably and peacefully. Ideally the film will help spark a larger conversation about the re-imagining of death practices.
