A Unique Memorial Park
Preserving a rich history in the heart of northern California gold rush country, Westwood Hills Memorial Park is the final resting place of many of the state's "49ers" who flocked to the region in the mid-19th century in hopes of making their fortunes. Ed Bixby, the owner of Steelmantown Cemetery Company, acquired the property in 2018 with the goal of creating a one-of-a-kind memorial park. Ed spent years creating themed interment spaces throughout the facility, varying from the Asian Cremation Garden to an Elevated Outdoor Cremation Niche Sanctuary. Serene fountains and hand-sculpted statues can be found all throughout the property, serving as a peaceful place for families to reflect when visiting a loved one. Ed continues to create new and exciting places for families and visitors to enjoy at Westwood Hills Memorial Park. Specializing in natural burials, Ed also offers green burials within "The Meadow," the property's designated natural burial section.
Home to the United States' FIRST Jizo Grieving Site
In November 2023, Steelmantown Cemetery Company and Destination Destiny Memorials partnered with the non-profit organization The Jizo Foundation to establish the first Jizo Grieving Site in the United States. Based on ancient Japanese rituals, Jizo Bodhisattva is the protector and guardian of children who have died and comforter of those who grieve their deaths. In this special area, the public is invited to visit during cemetery hours, to sit, meditate, grieve, and remember. The beautiful stone Jizo sculpture centerpiece donated by Dr. Patricia Danaher is the first large one of its kind in public in the United States.
